Create a soldering nest like this by taking 22g/.64mm (it can be heavier or thinner as well) bending and flattening it. You can use it to elevate your work, get an even heating and good flow. When I am soldering bezels to backplates I like to heat from below so I can apply heat to the larger piece of metal and reduce my risk of melting my bezel!
Other uses for binding wire:
- I also use binding wire to bind around a soft charcoal block, this can help prevent it from falling apart.
-Holding components together during soldering, such as a stone setting to a ring shank.
-Applying a little pressure to a solder seam.
Binding wire is an essential, inexpensive tool to have in your studio just in case a project pops up where it is needed! Pepetools has 20g (.8mm), 22g (.64mm) and 24g (.5mm) all of which could be used to create a nest. Pepe is a sponsor of Metalsmith Society, helping me to continue to create and share educational content. We appreciate them and you can find this binding wire (and other essentials) comment “BENCH BASICS” and I’ll send a link to additional tips and to find binding wire! #sponsored #bindingwire #solderingnest #solderintips #solderingjewelry #jewelrymakingtips #pepetools
