Here is a tip for a stuck stone from (be sure to do this with caution) ☺️ @saltwater.and.silver - “In a perfect world you wouldn’t even need this trick-
You put floss under your stone and you were able to pop it out effortlessly. ✨
But what if in all your excitement you forgot the floss this time?
Or worse- it broke
Now the panicking begins.
How do you get out the stone?!
✨Worry not, dear friend! I think I have the solution for you!
⚡️Firstly, heed this warning: be *very* careful and intentional when you do this. It’s a quick process, but requires awareness.
We’re here to save the stone, not destroy it, and we want to keep all fingerprints in tact. We’re working with a flame and melted hot glue- I think you get the picture.
Ok, step one: being smart, complete.
Now very gently heat the glue stick. I think a good rule of thumb is to simply count to 3 then observe if the glue is soft and tack (avoid drippy hot glue). Our goal is to get it to adhere to the top of the stone rather than flow all over.
After placing the glue, wait for it to harden. Now, gently rock and pull, and then POP! Out it comes.
Now we have to get the glue off.
To avoid heating the stone, take your flame above it onto the glue stick for maybe 2 seconds (it’s quick- remember, be intentional). The radiant heat will soften the glue just enough to release the stone. Wiggle and pop!
I wish I could credit my own brain to this genius, but my husband @joshpharesart came up with it and I’ve been doing it for years. A slow, intentional process to save your piece and your stone✨
Are you brave enough to give this a try?” thank you for sharing this with us! 🙌 would love to hear others techniques for getting a stuck stone out! We have all been there 🤦♀️ #bezelsettingtips #stonesettingtips #jewelrymakingtips #metalsmithsocietyshare
