Do  you  use  soft  charcoal  blocks?  @connectingwithmetal  sent  this  image  as  a  cautionary  tale.  -  “This  morning  I  went  into  my  studio  to  find  a  pile  of  ash  where  my  charcoal  block  used  to  be.  Apparently,  a  soft  charcoal  block  should  be  spritzed  with  water  after  using.  This  seems  very  logical  and  obvious  now,  but  it  was  nothing  I  was  taught  or  had  ever  heard,  so  I  thought  it  important  to  share.  Fortunately,  I  always  keep  my  soldering  station  clear,  and  I  place  my  charcoal  block  on  a  soldering  block  before  using.  Also,  my  soldering  block  is  on  an  aluminum  baking  tray  which  adds  another  layer  of  protection  and  helps  keep  my  workspace  clean.  Fortunately  there  was  no  damage  other  than  the  early  demise  of  my  charcoal  block.”
I  don’t  use  a  soft  charcoal  block  personally  and  we  have  never  shared  this  info  on  this  page  but  it’s  absolutely  true  that  the  charcoal  will  continue  to  burn  (you  will  see  embers)  so  a  spritz  with  a  water  bottle  (use  eye  protection)  can  put  that  out  and  save  your  block!
