Do you use soft charcoal blocks? @connectingwithmetal sent this image as a cautionary tale. - “This morning I went into my studio to find a pile of ash where my charcoal block used to be. Apparently, a soft charcoal block should be spritzed with water after using. This seems very logical and obvious now, but it was nothing I was taught or had ever heard, so I thought it important to share. Fortunately, I always keep my soldering station clear, and I place my charcoal block on a soldering block before using. Also, my soldering block is on an aluminum baking tray which adds another layer of protection and helps keep my workspace clean. Fortunately there was no damage other than the early demise of my charcoal block.”
I don’t use a soft charcoal block personally and we have never shared this info on this page but it’s absolutely true that the charcoal will continue to burn (you will see embers) so a spritz with a water bottle (use eye protection) can put that out and save your block! Thank@you for sharing this Gwendolyn we appreciate you!! #softcharcoalblock #solderingjewelry #jewelrystudiosafety
