Here is a tip with my @sunstoneweldjewelry Orion 150s Pulse Arc Welder, use it to tack a bezel in place prior to soldering! In the instance of this signet ring if it had moved even a little it would be crooked and then I’d have to reheat to try to move it, risking damage to my gold bezel. This extra step with the pulse arc only takes a few seconds:
First use a tiny amount of super glue to position the bezel for the weld, this is a hot tip for other times you need to weld something too, if it’s tricky to hold.
Next you apply a few welds to the interior of the bezel, that way you won’t see it on the outside of your piece. I did four small ones. I used a 5.0Ws power.
Remove the super glue with acetone and use ventilation.
Then you solder! Trust me when you have spent a lot of time on a custom shaped bezel this will give you peace of mind and a beautiful solder seam. My flux bubbling or me accidentally poking the bezel when applying solder with not move my bezel.
Shoutouts to @sunstoneweldjewelry for supporting Metalsmith Society by being a sponsor. Huge shoutouts to @lucywalkerjewellery who shared this tip with me when I was working on a very expensive ring, I love our community and how we help each other.
